The wind season is on and more and more windsurfers and kitesurfers are finding their way to Jericoacoara every year.
The surfer crowd are usually awesome guests and very easy going!
Kitesurf lessons
Many of our guests are beginners and learn with one of the local kite schools. Choose wise when looking for a kitesurf school because there are so many it can be confusing to get an objective opinion. Some schools have IKO certified instructors that speak a bunch of languages wheras others operate with great kitesurfers who don’t have a license though…
I strongly recommend always taking some classes when learning wind- or kitesurf. Invest in a course with a good school that uses new equipment and works with qualified instructors…you won’t regret.

Kitesurf downwind
If you are a more advanced kitesurfer or love downwinds, you will also find yourself in paradise here. Jericoacoara and surroundings offer some of the best downwinds in the world!
If you are staying directly in Jeri, it is very convenient to do downwinds from or to the neighbouring fishing villages:
* Barrinha to Preá or Jeri
* Préa to Jeri
* Jeri to Guriú or Tatajuba
Gather together to organize a transfer with guided downwind. This way you all can enjoy surfing while a buggy driver will accompany you along the beach. In case you need him for a water stop and want to rest a bit, lost your board (sad but happens) or are having troubles with your kite, just get on shore for support.
I’ve met kitesurfers who did multiple day downwinds, better known as downwind kite safaris, anywhere between Natal and Lencois Maranhenses / Sao Luis with guided private transfer all along the way.
Last year Geules, our favorite buggy driver of the Pousada who is also a kitesurfer, accompanied one American guest who was sailing 1.000km downwind alone!!! Geules was with him all the time bringing the guests gear and guiding him – always ready to act in any case of difficulties or emergengy. The American guest was in the water most of the stretch! In 30 days he had 21 kiting and 9 resting days.
Crazy people!!
I always find it very inspiring to meet this kind of people and listen to their stories.
